The Competence Centre sees itself as a link between expertise from research and development and stakeholders in industry and politics, as well as the interested public.
The aim is to develop concepts for integrating renewable energies and hydrogen technologies into existing structures, as well as the transition of structures to fully renewable supply and the innovative energy business models arising from this.
In this context, the network also focuses particularly on issues relating to security of supply and the reliability of existing and newly created infrastructures.
Economic and social performance in Europe depends to a considerable extent on the security of supply and reliability of its energy systems. Within this area of tension, a triad of key challenges is becoming increasingly apparent:

With its network of research and industrial partners, the Competence Centre can develop solutions that address these challenges. Strategies and concepts can be developed that represent both affordable and resilient solutions for a wide variety of issues.

The tasks of the Competence Centre include:
- Positioning the Competence Centre as a visible, accessible, reliable and credible source of information on integrating renewable energies and hydrogen technologies into existing infrastructures
- Analysis and conception for implementing innovative applications and business models in the D-A-CH region
- Identifying and continuously evaluating (new) technologies for reliable and resilient supply
- Research and development in the subject area and knowledge transfer
- Developing and disseminating best practices on a scientific basis through research, publication and organising/participating in congresses, symposia and seminars
