The Competence Centre sees itself as a hub between research and teaching on the one hand, and business, politics and institutions on the other, with the aim of developing a comprehensive and holistic view of resilient cooperation and interaction between the complex issues in the value chain: tourism, culture, and the creative industries as well as art.
In the field of tension between globalisation, economics, pandemics, climate change, digitalisation and automation, there is interest in a holistic examination of the vulnerability of this supply chain and its networks.
The cultural and creative industries can offer possible resilient solutions to a range of growing challenges that are sustainable and can be supported through research and innovation activities.
These challenges are:
- Creativity, cultural diversity and values;
- Identity and cohesion;
- Employment, economic resilience and smart growth; and
- Europe as a global actor.
Austria's and Europe's creativity and cultural diversity depends, among other things, on resilient and robust cultural and creative sectors. However, these sectors face a number of challenges due to increasing competition from global players, climate change and digital transformation.
The development of risk-reducing strategies and resilience strategies requires innovations in qualitative and quantitative concepts, models, methods and tools in the area of risk assessment as well as modelling and simulation, in order to determine the degree of resilience required at state and enterprise level.
Technologies in the supply chain are increasingly of strategic importance as the backbone of supply chain optimisation to ensure efficiency, security and economic viability.
Our Competence Centre has a network of experts covering all important topics within the thematic portfolio: tourism, culture, and the creative industries as well as art.
The tasks of the Competence Centre include:
- Positioning the Competence Centre as a visible, accessible, reliable and credible source of information for this value chain.
- Analysis and conception for the implementation of innovative applications
- Identifying and continuously evaluating (new) technologies for digital applications, taking climate change into account
- Method development for and analysis of threats, vulnerabilities as well as development of resilience strategies for this supply chain
- Research and development in the subject area and knowledge transfer
- Developing and disseminating best practices on a scientific basis through research, publication and organising/participating in congresses, symposia and seminars
